performance: dark

For each of the shots during the editing i have changed the contrast and brightness of the clips to give them a darker overall look to match the darker scenes of neverland beter during the last half of the video.

Just like the lighter shots i have encluded shots of the guitar to break up the heavy human based shots. Also having the guitar in time to the track will give a more realistic feel to video hopefully.
I have used an extreme close up to keep all the focus on the guitar.



I have used lots of close up shots within the darker performance scenes, the wider shots i captured didn't turn out as i hoped you couldn't make out a lot of the detail and characters in the scene.

Lighting based on the side of the actors face and behind to create an almost silhouette effects, i was quite annoied i couldn't create the black backdrop around the sides of the band this would have given a better effect in my opinion.

GIF showing a shot captured using the tripod fixed to a Dolly to create a smooth tracking shot, i really like this shot and plan to definitely use it in my video.

To the right is another close up shot of the second guitarist,i captured these close ups from various sides and angles of each of the singers in the hope of gaining a lot of lip syncing shots to apply to the video.

 



Performance: light

For the performance set up i arrange a night when all the band members were available, i was able to use the primary school hall to transform into a stage after closing hours. I was able to rope up two black curtains behind the band to create a plain backdrop, however this was only possible on the one back wall behind them.
I filmed both the light and dark set ups in the same night, using foot control panels
behind the camera i was able to switch the lights behind the artists on and off without having someone in shot manually controlling them. By filming them on the same night this ensured good continuity, the clothing and mise-en-scene were guaranteed to all be the same
We had the original track playing through speakers on loop in the room, from this i just had the whole band mime to the song over and over while i captured certain shots of each character each time.

For the lighter performance set up i was able to capture a lot more wider shots of the whole band during their performance.

This also helps to clearly shows the lip syncing to the music.

I also provided shots of the guitar playing the song, this helps to break up the shots of the characters and gives a more realistic tone to the performance set up if there are instruments playing in time.

 

Running to find each other

i have used GIF images to show the clips i captured of the two running to find each other.

 

To the left i have shown one of the examples of the close up shots, this will be the introducing shot to these scene, it helps create a softer transition between the different scenes.

i have captured this shot of both Wendy and Peter's feet running.

The setting of this scene is much like that at the beginning the park meet up. I have incorporated both the natural and urban setting through the trees and river but also the brick and concrete floor. This helps to show the link between the Non and realistic settings of the real world and neverland.

The shots i have captured are mainly mid shots of the character, this is to keep the focus on the character and create less distraction from the background. i have gathered mid shots of both Peter and Wendy running to each other from opposite angles, finishing with the clip above of them embracing together.

In the editing stages i will edit these clips darker to match the level of light in the other shots.

Finding the necklace

The image to the left shows the opening to the scene in which Wendy finds the necklace. I have used a medium shot to clearly show her emotions but still wide enough to establish she is back in her room in the "real world".

After Wendy stand up and walk around her room, the camera shows her putting her hand in her pocket through a close up to focus the audiences view entirely on her pocket knowing there is something there before she has shown the camera.

A close up of her face highlights a very confused look on her face, at this point the audience will not know what she has found.

 I then plan to show her emotion change to a very happy / excited expression, however at this point the audience won't have seen what it is she has found which helps build the tension/suspense to the scene.





An over the shoulder shot reveals her opening her hand to find the necklace given to her, at this moment the camera jumps back to her face as she leaves the frame of the shot showing her leaving to go find Peter.

I have also captured a couple of shots of Wendy physically leaving the room, I may use these to create a smoother connection between this scene and her running to find Peter.

Wake up alone

Close ups of Wendy as she wakes from the "Neverland Dream" alone.
the camera is a different position from when she shut her eyes to show that the scene doesn't have the same feeling, something is missing and different (Peter?).
camera shows is positioned on both sides of Wendy to clearly show she is alone.

Mid shots of Wendy looking around from Peter make the scene clearer, you can clearly identify her actions. However it is still close enough to clearly see her expressions.

From this camera shot Wendy will stand up and exit out of shot. The framing of her walking off will be the same to create a better continuity between shots.

Star projector

For the star projection scene I kept a lot of the shots very close, this helped to keep the quality of the scene. When I tried using the wider shots the lighted became very blured and unrecognisable.

I have Peter and Wendy sit face to face in this scene like a lot of the scene to emphasise their close relationship and that they are happy together.

Fairylights in Trees

I haven't taken too many screen shots from this scene, due to bad quality.

 I am annoyed that the picture has come out so grainy, however this is down to the camera, it is not one which is targeted at filming in settings as dark as this, also during the time of filming it was hard to create the correct amount of lighting as in the dark it looked better with less, while when transferring to the computer those which has the lighting score directly on the two characters seems clearer.

During filming I had another member of the band there to help with lighting, he was never in shot but to ensure I could control the camera I instructed him to use various torches and lights to help make Peter and Wendy more visible on screen, these were the ones which turned out to be better.

Glow in the dark jars

Two shot of Peter and Wendy sat surrounded by the jars, this helps to show the setting and shows the glowing jars really well.
This scene was very hard to create due to the low light, the glow sticks didn't produce enough light to show up well on camera first, after lowering the main light and using a small source of light to highlight Peter and Wendy I managed to make the shot reasonably visible.

T4o ensure the lighted reflected around the room the best to their ability I covered all the surfaces and floor with white blankets and throws.
Also to make the shot more interesting I used different sized tables and boxes to create varied heights and levels to set the jars on making the shot more appealing.

Close ups of each character to help gain an even amount of close ups in each scene.

In the clip to the left I have used the lighting behind Peter, this creates an almost silhouette effect.

I like the use of blue lighting typically in the shots to the right and above, I think it makes the scene feel more unique and allows the audience to see them clearer dispite being set in the dark. Also darker shades of blue are often related and linked with night time and darker settings.

Blanket fort

 The two images on the right show some different angles and positions I have used while filming, both of which I have used close up two shots to capture both characters in shot but to an extent where you can clearly see both of them.

By using this throughout the filming it helps create an even spread of camera attention and doesn't single out one character above the other. This is key as I don't want the artist to appear as though he is better than the audience/other characters in the video.

 I am unsure if I will use this shot, I have captured a close mid shot of Peter in Wendy's arms, however this does help break the stereotypically image of couples, usually it is the female laying on male, by doing this helps to show the alternative element and how they aren't afraid to break conventions.

I have used two different camera shots of the scene where Peter gives Wendy the acorn necklace.

The first is an over the shoulder of the necklace from Wendy's perspective, the second is an extreme close up of just the necklace, this is a good time to show the audience clearly what the necklace is- the element of being an acorn may not be clear in other shots.

 The image to the right shows Peter and Wendy laying down, I have used a close up shot her to emphasise on the close intimacy of the couple.

In this shot it is also a good time to draw focus to the necklace again, as in many of the other further shots you will not be able to see it.

Finally I captured some clips of the lights and cushions around the pair, I have used some pull focus techniques to give the clip something more interesting and different. These clips will help to break the high level of people based shots, even the performance scene used to break up neverland shots will have Peter and the band therefore these will help even out this.

Balloons inside

The the left shows a close up I have captured of both Peter and Wendy. Makes the audience feel closer to the artist and easier to relate and identify emotions.

During the shots of the balloons falling around them i have used a medium two shot to keep both characters in frame and enable the audience to see more of what is happening around them (balloons) than if i were to use a close up shot.

Over the shoulder of Peter to diverse the shots while keeping ther surroundings and both characters in shot.
Easier and more focused view of Peter as he lip syncs the lyrics, helps to fovus the attention on the lyrics as well.

Holi Powder

Above and to the right show various close up shots of the two characters, I used this camera framing to focus on the reaction of their character as they get hit to show the element of fun.This also makes the scene more personal for the audience and more engaging.

Silhouette effect used and a low angle shot to emphasizes this, Peter and Wendy throwing the powder at each other, I also did a similar shot where it shows the two hugging in the same camera effects however a close up.

This shot I used a selective colour on the red and yellow powder, it really gives a unique element to the scene and makes it more interesting.

Above and to the right shows the two fight, I have used a two shot to frame both of the characters and helps to establish the scene.

The shot to the right shows a medium close up shot of Wendy as Peter throws Holi powder over her. The camera is face on to enable a clear identification of Wendy's emotions,
