Stealing the hype

I noticed while watching the 3oh!3 - double vision video they had incorporated other trends and crazes into their video.

In October 2001 Daft Punck realeased their song "Harder Better Faster Stronger" in 2007 a video was uploaded to YouTube of what was to be name "daft hands" and consisted of the lyrics written on the fans hand and they would show each word in time to the music. This video has received over 56.8 million views.

This then developed and the craze "daft bodies" began. (Skip to 1:45)

By incorporation other viral crazes it increases the chance of a music video going viral itself. Also the sense of familiarity is positive to the audience and is easier to relate to, it reduces a level of confusion.
